I'm so bored with people of my class like Alexandra Penney! She just wrote a book about losing all her money to Madoff and expressed her fears of becoming a bag lady. Paleeease! She has 3 properties--3!! She knows people in many high places with connections. She'd never get near the curb let alone the street! What a liar! So she slept with Madoff for money, so did a lot of others and lost. Tough luck. She slept with wolves, Mrs. Beale would've said! It's time somebody wrote people like her off and stopped buying their books! What is wrong with Americans these days that they can't tell a shyster from a real person anymore? We need to grow up. America needs another revolution but one where people wake up from their daydreaming and smell the coffee. I'm registering as an independent because you can't tell the good guys from the bad ones anymore, honestly!!!

Forgive me for saying so, but does it seem our candidates for office lately are prime examples of life's refuse? First of all, you don't get into politics today unless you're born into it like Jackie's kids or you were a celebrity of some sort prior like a sports star or movie actor. It's disgusting how base some of these people running for office are! In Boston we have Brown who was a twink from the past who appeared nude in Cosmo for money as a youngster. Now he's a so-called conservative who wants to tell us what to do and how to live. Personally, I'd rather vote for my cat Francine to run. At least all we could depend on her to show up for Kibble every day. I think all persons running for political offices ought to be spayed before hand. That way, they'd never stray from the job at hand looking for tomcats to play with. Who is next for office, a former con from prison? Why not, we've had everything else. It's just another form of show biz except they get to steal our money and thumb their noses at us. When are we going to wake up from this nightmare world we created? Are we idiots who ate too many Big Macs and Twinkies?

Have you read about the Paul Merhige rampage shooting over the holidays? Isn't it awful? What happens to someone in a family when they just start blindly killing or assassinating their kin? What gives? I don't know, I think it's perhaps that we don't know the story behind the story, you know? I mean, you know what I mean, there might be some alternate reasons why he acted the way he did. I used to ride by all those charming little houses in suburbia and wonder just what kind of horrors were going on behind those pretty picket fences and gardens. Once you get inside and live with them, it's a different story. It's like Grey Gardens. For years, nobody knew what Mother and I were going through. They'd pass by the house and I'm sure thought we were living in the lap of luxury inside. Even Jackie when she visited for the first time in years asked "I don't understand, what happened?" Hello, we ran out of money! Oh, my brothers didn't care. They had their own lives and rarely visited. People tend to look away from anything that challenges their world. So, I think something nasty was done to this guy when he was young or he experienced something horrible growing up in this family and kept all that anger inside so long that when it rose up, it was terrific! We really need to pay attention to each other! People are extremely sensitive!

Sick to Death of Celebrity

Aren't you tired with celebs and their transgressions? I am! I'm sick of hearing about this or that one being picked up for DUI or not paying taxes. Imagine having all that adoration and money and all you can do is get drunk or evade the feds? I'm telling you, the more people get, the more dissatisfied they become. They just keep looking for new highs. Take this Tiger Woods thing--what a mess he created. The problem isn't just that he was unfaithful (All men are--aren't they awful?), but that he duped the public into thinking all this time he was beyond reproach. This man paraded himself as the new John Wayne or Jimmy Stewart and all time he was just using the media and letting people make up their silly hero stories about him. I remember seeing an old movie in which one of the female characters says "You shouldn't say that about him, he's a great man!" The other looks at her like she's nuts and says, "There are no great men, honey, there's only MEN!" Never have truer words been spoken on film! Personally, I think we ought to have real heroes like ourselves or the postman or milkman who does something valiant for us every week and goes unappreciated. We need to grow up and stop idolizing people with clay feet!

I Couldn't Make This Stuff Up!

The news is very troubling these days--almost science fiction! Did you read the story about the Ft. Hood gunman? Tell me, I'm confused, just how does a person of the Muslim faith who by nature and teaching thinks we are all infidels end up in the US military? They detest gay people but put someone like this on the payroll???? He wears the robes of his faith yet, a faith based on hate? I don't know if you know that, I mean, do you know that? Mohammed recruited his followers by threatening them with death if they didn't believe he was the next Jesus. It was totally a religion based on exclusion and oppression and here Americans sit on their haunches while they're building mosques in all our cities now.

Also, did you hear about that poor baby shut in a trunk under the aunt's bed for 12 hours while the mother cried kidnap? Are people going crazy? I'm amazed at these stories. Years ago, the average person wouldn't do such things. Now it seems everyone is acting out.

I think a lot of this stuff has to do with the economy being bad, but also it doesn't help. I dunno. I'd just like a day or two on the beach.

Up Up and Away

It's absolutely amazing to see how far folks these days will go to get fame. I'm speaking of that family who reported to authorities that their son was missing after having taken off in a small balloon. How much attention can one person generate? That seems to be the name of the game--attention! Everyone wants his/her 15 mins. of fame (Remember Andy Warhol, he said that in the future everyone will be famous for 15 mins. or secs. or something.) at all cost. I come from an era where one tried to never get his/her name in the paper for anything other than births, marriages, deaths. It's sad to see people do this sort of thing. I think most of the multiple birth people who took fertility drugs are in the same boat. Imagine dropping 6 or 7 babies just to get money and be on tv? Those women will never be the same. Babies ruin your figure and they age you incredibly. After all, they are acting like a parasite feeding off your body until they come out. I mean, I don't know if you know that--do you know that? It's rather disgusting if you think about it.

Can you imagine anyone competing these days in a beauty contest? Honestly, even back when I was a young girl I thought they were wrong. You might as well sell yourself to white slavers, you know. These girls come from trailer parks all over America with dreams of becoming what, new meat? The chance to get into Playboy magazine and party at Hefner's mansion? I can't believe women could be so stupid. Why did we fight for equality when we're still producing empty-headed bimbos like Miss California? She ought to get a job and save money for college. This country has gone to the dawgs, I'm telling you. We have mass unemployment and children raised by computers and television and Miss California is fretting over gay marriage. Would you believe it? She ought to go to Iraq and live in a medieval environment run by men.

Bush Stole Your Money, For God's Sake!

Did you read the story in today's paper about Bush robbing the poor to feed the wealthy? He apparently took way more than Congress knew to bail out the defaulted banks. He's a crook, I'm telling you. The shifty too close eyes, the constant smile, he could've sold insurance or cars. Well, my mother always said Barbara Bush's family couldn't be trusted as far as you could kick them from here to there. She knew. All the old money in the Hamptons knew their story. That's why they ended up in Texas. Nobody wanted them here. Honestly, I think the only fair thing to do is to make his family pay that money back to the people of the US. Helping the banks is only going to make the rich richer. They ought to do what they did to Mussolini. It's just a crime that Americans no longer act on anything. I don't think you could get two Americans to agree to do anything anymore. Aren't people awful when they become complacent?

We all know by now that the US and soon the rest of the world will be bankrupt mainly because of the crooked politicians who have turned tricks for bucks. All the evil car companies and banks who bilked the public for years making inferior and dangerous products while the CEOs pocketed the cash which should've been used for retooling and development now want the PUBLIC to BAIL them out! Isn't that horrific? What a nerve? I say that the men who have been caught with their fingers in the till ought to be made to hand over their millions back to the citizens to even out the books. Just how did the Clintons, for instance, become so wealthy in such a short time? Why not make them pay some billions to restore order in the accounts? After all, isn't it common knowledge they were doing nothing in those last 4 years? And Bill Clinton took part in selling off the USA to China, India and others. Thanks to the Bushes and Bill, we now as a nation produce nothing and depend on everyone else for everything. In just two decades we've become a third world nation.

Remember that this season brings out the best and worst in people. People who have too much ask for more and people who need a lot get little. The world in 2008 has become a lot fatter and a lot greedier and selfish. Beware the almighty buck! It turns angels into harpies. We can thank the Republican Party for the current state of affairs. It's so typical that they rape the country for 8 years and twist the truth for their own means. Even now it seems the public is still naive enough to think being conservative is a good thing. Mother always said that it didn't matter how much money you had as long as you had the talent for living. Those mean-spirited right wingers in East Hampton made our lives miserable and never apologized for a thing. The plan, you see, is to get us out of Grey Gardens so they can develop it or sell it for millions to some NYC yuppies. I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't recognize it in a couple of years. Somebody will come in and purge the whole thing. Why does mankind always want to mold everything including nature to his own will? I have all I can do to pin together a new creation I'm wearing today. I can't imagine wanting to control other people around me!? Do they think they'll live forever? Nobody gets that--get it?? We all succumb to the Grim Reaper. The only thing that is constant is nature--man is variable. So, be a little kinder.

Did you read about the $700 billion economic rescue plan for Wall Street? Are they crazy??? For God's sake, what can they be thinking? I'm not going to feather the beds of these fat cats who stole all that money with my tax dollars! I'd just as soon shove them under the goddamn bed if you know what I mean! These young traders have been getting away with murder for years now and nobody has pulled the plug! Mr. Beale, my father, would never had stood for this. Honestly, I don't see how these women who are married to them can live this lie! Anyway, I saw Marcy Kaptur, I think that's the right name, on TV telling Congress where to get off and I'm so proud of her! I think she ought to be a candidate. You know what I think, I think this woman Palin is being put out there to grab the votes of the uneducated and ignorant. She's a token. She's like a bone tossed to the underlings, if you will. The Republicans think that people are so stupid that she'll appeal to them and perhaps they're right. I mean, we already have a president who admitted to not reading so why not an unsophisticated woman from the boonies for VP? It makes perfect sense. I'm telling you, I should've moved to Europe when I had the chance. They must be roaring in Europe at the shenanigans going on here. In just two decades we have slipped back to the 1930s, including all the components for a new Depression! It's very sad, you know, because we Bouviers were raised to be patriotic. The Major, he drummed into all us kids flag waving. He must be spinning in his grave. What a joke America has become. Sad.

Cat Stevens is Absolutely Nuts

What a shame, I remember Cat from the 70s when he wrote those marvellous songs about 'peace trains' and everything and people being happy. Look at him now! He doesn't bathe and he considers everyone who isn't a man inferior. I think he had a small seizure and nobody noticed or his genetic predisposition is to mental illness, I'm telling you! Imagine, all that talent and he wasted it on islamic backwards culture? Did he ever read up on Mohammed? The man was a wealthy murderer. He killed thousands of people. His idea of religion was genocide first for not believing and then he denied it at the end of his life and said it was a phase he went through. Honestly, I think most of humanity is just nuts. It's probably from too much global warming.

Beware of Hospitals

Did you read that story about the woman who died on the floor in the waiting room in NY and medical staff walking by her body for an hour ignoring her until someone noticed she wasn't moving? Isn't that tragic? I guess she fell ill waiting for someone to help her and just passed away. I can't believe the amount of money we spend on insurance and procedures only to find out none of the staff is doing their job! That's just a disgrace, I'm telling you. They ought to make those doctors and nurses at that hospital go back to school. You can't be too careful.

Summer

I do adore the warm weather, but the fleas do also. They thrive in the bushes and then come up into the house. If I don't get out of here soon, the fleas will drive me absolutely mad. Mother doesn't seem to notice, but they positively feast on me. Jerry has put some stuff down for them, but it doesn't seem to help. I notice the help all wear flea collars on their wrists. Perhaps I ought to too, but they're not very attractive. You know what I mean?

You know, I get very depressed lately reading the newspaper and listening to the radio. All this bad news! I mean, the price of gas and global warming and murders everywhere? At Farmington, we were never prepared for this. You know what I mean? We wore our pearls and sweaters and did what we were told. I mean, there was the war going on later, you know, but the horrible things people did were confined to the war. Now people are doing everything! Did you hear about that English man who murdered his wife and child? Isn't that awful? Aren't men awful? I suppose he just had enough of responsibility and couldn't take it anymore, but why didn't he just leave town? Mother and I lock the doors and windows lately because you never know who's coming and going? You can't tell what they want? I'm thinking of getting a dog.
